What does Crossing Borders do ?

The organization »African Angel« runs a children’s house in the city of Accra, Ghana. The most recent project aims at setting up a vocational training center and a store in order to provide education opportunities for local youths.

The slum of Bakum is one of the oldest and poorest neighbourhoods of Ghana’s capital city Accra. Due to overfishing, the inhabitants have lost their traditional form of income. Public infrastructure and housing conditions are desolate. Especially children are at risk, child labour and early pregnancy are common. Most people cannot afford a private education, which would offer an opportunity to escape poverty. African Angel supports children throughout their educational career. A training workshop shall create additional opportunities. Young men will receive vocational training as metal workers. In a store in downtown Accra, women will sell the products and receive mircocredits in order to set up their own sales business.

How to support this project?

The project would happily welcome educators who could provide teaching assistance. The children are always happy about visitors who participate in different activities (workshops, music, handcrafts) – prior contact is advisable.
